Guided Walk

Saturday 12th September 2015
Durlston Country Park 08:00 - 13:00
An early start for a ringing demonstration by the Stour Ringing Group (08:00-10:00) and then a leisurely walk down to the lighthouse to hopefully see more migrants. We will then walk back towards the Castle along the coast and have a quick seawatch before decamping into the Castle for tea and cake (optional!). Please could you email walks@dorsetbirds.org.uk if you are attending.

The forecast for Saturday looks both good and bad. It's good in the sense that the conditions look very promising for migrant birds to drop in with a South-easterly and rain overnight, bad in that if that rain continues through the morning then we may not be able to go ahead with the ringing demo.

The walk will go ahead regardless of whether we ring or not and I have high hopes that we may encounter migrant birds such as Lesser Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Spotted and Pied Flycatchers, Whinchat etc and offshore we may be lucky enough to witness Balearic Shearwater passing by.

Numbers for the walk are limited but there are still some spaces available so please email walks@dorsetbirds.org.uk if you wish to attend. Members and non-members of all birding abilities are most welcome so I hope to see you there.

We will meet at 8am in the area of the car park nearest the old information centre (i.e. the NW corner of the car park http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=403181&Y=77323&A=Y&Z=106 )
A car park charge will be applicable: £2.50 for 2 hours, £4 for 4 hours and £5 all day, the machines do not take 5p's or 10p's.
